11th grade reflection
This year could have been better. I could have done more to use my class time to it's extent, but I have been procrastinating to use my class time and when I am unsure of what I have to do, I usually just played games on my computer. But next time will be different, from my internship, I learned that slacking off all day with nothing to do is not as fun as you might think. I feel like I want to make myself feel useful at several times, and I feel like next year, I can definitely put that to the test. Overall, lesson learned, will put that knowledge to the test much more next year.
my best work from this year

Final Story
The hyper popular fantasy role playing game Dungeons and Dragons was originally released back in 1974 by Tactical Studies inc. In 1977 a new version of the game was released called Advanced Dungeons and Dragons and features less barriers for what the Dungeon Master and players can do, and this is the first version of what we mainly know as Dungeons and Dragons (or DnD) as today. Since 1997 it has been published by Wizards of the Coast, who also publish Magic the gathering. It primarily focuses around a group of players playing as brave adventurers navigating mystical worlds and battling ferocious creatures to achieve a goal set forward to them by one of the players who is taking the role of Dungeon Master, the god of the world they came up with and decision maker for the whole world. The players can make any decision they want to try and make as long as it is physically possible, and the only thing in the way of them from doing something really cool is the roll of a 20 sided dice. The game has become incredibly popular over the years with the most recent edition, 2014’s 5th edition (or 5e) having become the most popular version of the game yet with a new edition called One DnD being set to release next year.
But enough about the background of the game. What about its place in Animas? This campaign being run by Sophomore math teacher Ande Lloyd and Sophomore Mitchell Bidart takes place in the fictional region of Arden, in which the campaign mainly revolves around Arden’s past and this event called the Cataclysm, a massive civil war that wiped out an ancient species of high elves and the dragons, which in this universe, were the children of gods. And only one of the ancient Elves remained afterwards. According to Ande “Each one of the players wrote their own part of the world and put it all together and put everyone’s ideas together in this world called Arden. The whole campaign revolves around ancient times, and this event called the cataclysm, a massive war which wiped out the dragon riders, with only one remained” Everyone had a place in writing a little bit more about this world, which could give everyone a deep backstory in this world.
The characters in this world each have their own massive part to play in this campaign. These Characters are “Avot, the last of the Dragon Riders, Etsli, the one trying to figure out the Temuji, Diana, the most light hearted and likable character in existence, Zuul, Dragonborn that has tentacles sprouting out of him, Carnifex, the one who may or may not have killed several people, Jagger, the veteran with only one arm, and Tsumi, the one with vampire issues''. Due to the sheer size of the group, they had to split the party in two in order to make it less clustered and more orderly, plus they can focus on more than one part of the story at a time.
Ande was inspired to become a dungeon master because he wanted to unleash his childlike tendencies, and the students in this school helped him do it. So he decided to use DnD to fully let out these tendencies and build a world with his students and send them on a massive adventure in this world to uncover its secrets and solve its problems.
Unfortunately, what is going on in the campaign at the moment cannot be disclosed due to the group being very secretive. The most I can share is that they are trying to find an object.

11th grade 1st semester reflection
Seeing several of my peers interviewing members of the Quill, I decided to hop into that trend. I decided to interview Zander Albers because he seemed like an interesting one to do. First I asked him “What did you do this semester.” and he said “I did more journalism than I ever did, of course you got usual stories, bus also added more of a flare to the quill by trying to introduce other things to spice it up a little bit with stuff” and he gave me an example of one of his stories where he reviews an album called “Omens” by the band Lamb of God. where he tries to recommend an album by claiming “it is crafted in such a way that it always gets your attention”. He also stated he made contributions to instagram. The best example of this is a video story of Zoell running in high heels to help promote his involvement in the men in drag race. And lastly, he made an attempt to start up his comic strip for the quill. Which then he states that next semester is when he will really try to build the comic series up to its potential. As well as his involvement on the rebooted Friday Show. Overall, Zander Albers gives himself an A because he was more involved in the quill then he had ever been, he wrote a lot of stories, and he put all the effort into them.
10th grade quill reflection
Now that I am finishing up my first semester working at the quill, I now am left with the thoughts of my achievements of my experience so far during the quill. First of all, this is my first experience with journalism, so I had to learn the ropes by writing a story and getting my stuff out onto the school newspaper. There were two quills released during the semester, the first one only had my slight contributions to the roses and thorns section. The second quill however, I have two big stories coming out on that issue and I know for sure they are going to be featured. The first one is the big interview of one of the instructors of the music program where I interviewed Jay Harootunian from the I AM MUSIC institute and gained information on why they are teaching students at Animas High School. The other story is the featured artist where I wrote about my good friend Desmond Tsosie and praised him for his creativity in music writing and performing on stage. Since I am planning on returning to the quill next year, I have set some goals ahead for me for next year. The first goal is to debut my new comic strip to be used in news of the nest and the quill. The other goal is to potentially successfully reboot the Friday show. But if that also does not work out, I suppose the comic strip is good enough.
Examples of work from this semester:
1. Music program interview: These aren't all of the basics, there also had to be information about the extent of the instruments, the music instructor was asked about the instruments they teached, the instructor responded with:
”We generally teach instruments found in a rock/pop band such as: Guitar, Bass, Keys, Drums and Vocals. We also include and teach any instruments that students are already playing outside of class, ukulele is a popular choice that many students tend to play prior to this class.”
2. Featured Artist Desmond: Desmond claims that “Sound, it fills the world with hope and joy and can express thousands of emotions. I also always wanted to express myself through words and tell people things without saying them directly, like apologies and confessions. In the songs I am making there is so much meaning in my lyrics so yes, read into it.”
This inspires Desmond to write lyrics that are quite personal to himself, such as his song “Angelina” which is about his experience with someone criticizing his appearance, and him being able to relate to what she was saying. But according to Desmond himself “I'd rather have you the consumer depict the message behind my music”. Basically Desmond would like each listener to make their own personal meaning.
3. Contributing to the roses and thorns:
Rose: After two years of pandemic cancellations, we get to have a prom again
Thorn: Taking the SAT means we have to miss a week of Steve's gymnastics X-block.
I cannot wait for what the future of the AHS quill has for me in Junior year.
