Thank you to the best Humanities teacher ever born.
The 20% project
April 23, I started out my 20% project by thinking about common school situations. I could not think of current ones so I thought of the next most reasonable thing, the future. In my junior year (by the time I'm writing this, I am a Freshman) there is going to be a new building up at Fort Lewis, and when we move, all the walls will be blank and boring. The creative drawings on the walls of our current building sparks creativity and inspiration in students to work on projects. So my project, decorate this new building just like the old one to continue inspiring students to pour their creativity into their projects.
May 3, On Thursday (April 30) I presented my project to the class on the google meet. But after that I learned that I have a pretty big problem. Because the new building is located at or very near to the college, we are not allowed to draw on the walls or get messy with the building, thus limiting creativity in the new building. This is a pretty big problem not only for my project but the Animas spirit. But that got me thinking, What if there are other ways to give the school a creative blast just like this building. So now my new goal is to think of methods of getting creative with the building, and I will not stop till I think of one.
May 11, I have come up with a breakthrough. Last week went amazing even though nothing much happened, and that's because everything happened. I got the thought to display student art in several trophy cases across the school. The biggest obstetrical I faced while thinking of this is my brain, because I am incredibly lazy and my brain does not process in rapid fire, i usually forget what I'm supposed to do, only when I'm actually in a setting of remembering what I was supposed to do. This instance, it was Thursday's humanities class when I thought of putting student art into glass cases. I waited to get my thought out until just yesterday when I emailed my thought to Stephen to share my breakthrough.
So far in this project, the best 3 things that happened to me are
1. thinking of my project to deck the new building
2. thinking of putting student work in a glass case
3. Sharing my idea to Stephen
I only have 1 question left: How are we supposed to get a bunch of glass cases into the building?
The email I sent Stephen for even more information about my idea:

May 17, Nothing much really happened last week. Stephen did not respond to the email I sent him. So my challenge of last week was the email I sent him and having him see it. Since he did not see it, my new goal for this week is definitely asking him about the email and if he read it, and if not, make sure he does. I feel like this is going incredibly well for me, I do not need any help. All I need to do now this week, get Stephen to acknowledge my email, and then get my new goals for the coming weeks.
Resilience Project
Reflection
The resilience project started when Stephen wanted to hear our story about resilience. He wanted to hear all of our stories of when we were resilient and bounced back at our project. For this section of the project, I decided to go all out and share the darkest part of my life and how I overcame it. Then after that he wanted us to plan and then execute a plan for a bigger project. This project could range from being a picture to a Google slide to a presentation board. I chose a picture to draw and that is the picture you see above this summary.
In full detail, I described the feeling of depression by showcasing the guy crying in a corner and showing him in a bad mood while in bed. I showed the feeling of social anxiety by showing him anxious in public surrounded by people. I showed loneliness by showing him alone in his room on the computer probably playing Minecraft or watching dumb videos on YouTube. And at last, I showed the darkness going on inside of him by painting the backgrounds of the smaller pictures with dark colors. At last, I concluded the whole thing with the text "There are many shades to a man." I learned that if you have a dark backstory, you can make some pretty amazing things talking about it.
For the beginning of the project, I had to write about a time where I or a family were resilient. So I decided the perfect thing to do was to vent about my recent mental health problems because it was about the time I was very resilient about overcoming a very depressive state of mind. For the actual project, I decided to draw a picture. This picture is about a man who is going through a lot of problems. Their problems include depression, social anxiety, and loneliness (as shown in the micro pictures). I managed to execute it very well with detail described with dark colors and is honestly one of my best works of art, but drawing it was a bit of a struggle due to the fact that I cannot draw very well.
In the end, I feel like I've managed to grow very much as a person. Being depressed myself this project helped me to reach out and help other people understand my pain and sufferings. Knowing in the modern day, depression is a big problem. And having an actual victim explain depression through a picture is able to touch a lot more people knowing I went through this massive modern day problem. I learned that if you need to understand something serious, get someone that really knows, like for example a depressed person (like me) explaining depression through a picture. In conclusion, this project ended up going well for me.
